Facelift: The Complete Guide to Facial Rejuvenation Surgery

A facelift is a surgical procedure suitable for both men and women seeking a long-lasting solution for rejuvenating the face and neck. This procedure significantly enhances the appearance of the lower two-thirds of the face and neck, resulting in visible rejuvenation and boosting self-confidence. Most commonly, people between the ages of 40 and 60 undergo a facelift.

As we age, our appearance changes. Skin is affected by gravity, sun exposure, lifestyle, smoking, illnesses, and other factors, leading to sagging skin, loss of defined facial and neck contours, drooping cheeks, and the formation of wrinkles and folds. While time cannot be stopped, a facelift can turn back the visible signs of aging by several years.

Rejuvenated appearance: The facelift significantly improves the appearance of the lower two-thirds of the face and neck area, resulting in visible rejuvenation and an enhancement of the overall appearance.
Long-term results: Unlike non-surgical procedures, a facelift offers more enduring results that typically last for several years.
Increased self-confidence: In addition to the aesthetic benefits, a facelift can also positively impact self-confidence and overall satisfaction with one's appearance.

Facelift

ltimately, a properly performed facelift will give you a natural, youthful, and refreshed appearance. Your confidence will be boosted, and it can also bring a sense of satisfaction with your appearance. The facelift method removes excess skin from the face and adjusts muscle tone, which significantly contributes to the overall rejuvenation of the face. This is achieved by tightening the muscle layer (SMAS). Some people need only one procedure, while others opt for a repeat treatment years later.

Course of the Facelift

The surgeon begins with an incision in the hairline at the temple, extending downward in front of the ear, then curving around the earlobe and behind it. The skin is pulled over the cheeks toward the ear, and the muscles beneath the skin are stretched in the same way. After the deeper tissue is repositioned, the blood vessels are sealed through cauterization. Then, the excess skin is trimmed away. The incision is closed with very fine stitches. The procedure is performed under sedation or general anesthesia and takes 2 to 3 hours. If the facelift is combined with other procedures, such as a brow lift or neck lift, the surgery time increases accordingly.

Practical Advice for Patients

The patient must schedule a consultation with a doctor in advance. During the consultation, the patient receives all the necessary information. This consultation is paid for by the patient.

The surgery is not recommended in the following cases:

Acute or chronic infection

Cold sores

Autoimmune disease

Severe allergic conditions

Acute phase of a malignant disease

Other serious illnesses such as diabetes and others

Before the surgery

The patient must have completed the usual preoperative examinations with their general practitioner (all necessary forms will be provided to the patient by the doctor during the consultation).

It is also recommended to discontinue all medications that may increase bleeding—consultation with the general practitioner is necessary.

If a woman wishes to undergo the surgery, it is advisable to discontinue contraceptive pills that can increase the risk of embolism by up to four times (discontinuation should ideally occur at least two months before the procedure and must be discussed with the gynecologist).

Before the procedure, the patient should not starve or follow a diet and should take precautions to avoid infections and colds.

The surgery can only be performed 2-3 months after an end of an infectious disease.

Before the procedure, the client must be fasting—they should not eat, drink, or smoke for at least 6 hours prior to the procedure. It is recommended to avoid alcoholic beverages and coffee 24 hours before the procedure.

It is advisable to take a bath on the day of the procedure, not to apply any body lotions or creams, refrain from wearing makeup, and avoid painting the nails (both hands and feet).

After the surgery

  • After the surgery, there is a hospitalization period of 1-2 days. The day after the operation, the dressing will be applied, and the drains will be removed.
  • The stitches will be removed after 7 to 10 days..
  • Return to work after 7 to 14 days, depending on the physical demands of the job..
  • After 2 to 3 months, the sensitivity of the operated area may be reduced or increased, but it will normalize after this period.
  • After three months, all bruises will be completely healed and gone (the overall result of the surgery will be evaluated at this time).
