Treatment of varicose veins with the EVLA method

Treatment of varicose veins with the EVLA method

A quick and minimally invasive method for removing large varicose veins in the lower limbs using a technique that, unlike traditional surgery, leaves no scars and allows patients to leave the clinic within two hours of the procedure. What's more, the entire treatment is performed under local anesthesia only.

Varicose veins are caused by weakening of the connective tissue in the vein wall, which gradually leads to the vein widening and becoming twisted. They usually occur in the lower limbs. Typical symptoms accompanying this disease are exertional pain and rapid fatigue. It is the most common venous disease, affecting up to half of our population in older age, with women being more susceptible to this disease. Genetics, female hormones, and pregnancy play a major role in the occurrence of this disease. In addition to these main factors, our unhealthy lifestyle also contributes to the development of varicose veins. In particular, it is important to mention lack of exercise, smoking, obesity, and static strain on the lower limbs, i.e., prolonged standing or sitting with limited movement. The EVLA method is currently one of the most advanced ways to treat varicose veins.

Minimal Invasiveness and Rapid Recovery: EVLA is less invasive than traditional surgical methods, leaves minimal scarring, and allows patients to quickly return to normal activities.
Effectiveness and Safety: High effectiveness (98% success rate) and safety of the procedure with minimal risk of complications, including less pain and fewer bruises.
Comfort and Fast Recovery: Short wearing time for compression stockings (only 2 weeks) and the ability to walk immediately after the procedure, which means minimal disruption to everyday life.

Benefits of the EVLA method:

  • Minimally invasive outpatient method for treating varicose veins under local anesthesia
  • The patient leaves 2 hours after the procedure
  • Intravenous closure resulting from precise application of energy
  • The method is gentle, effective, and safe
  • Postoperative complications are rare compared to conventional methods
  • Almost no pain or bruising
  • Shorter period of wearomg the elastic stockings after surgery – 2 weeks compared to 5 weeks for the classic method
  • Return to normal activities possible within a few days
  • Most patients feel significant relief soon after the procedure

How EVLA works

EVLA is particularly effective for treating large veins in the lower limbs. Laser energy is directed to the exact location inside the vein using an optical fiber inserted through a catheter. The laser closes the vein at the specified location, and it is absorbed over time. After the vein is closed, blood is redirected to healthy veins. An ultrasound device is used to locate the vein during the operation. In addition, the Nd: YAG laser has a high affinity for hemoglobin absorption, making it an ideal choice for endovenous laser treatment. Its high power, selectivity, and precision (limiting thermal effects to only the target tissue) are prerequisites for the exceptional success of the procedure. The device also offers a wide range of tools to expand treatment options without reducing its effectiveness.

Results

According to the latest clinical studies, the EVLA method achieves a 98% success rate in treating varicose veins.

Practical advice for patients

The patient must make an appointment in advance for a consultation with the doctor who will perform the treatment. During the consultation, the client will receive all necessary information from the attending physician.

  • The patient must undergo a general preoperative examination by their general practitioner (the patient will receive all necessary referral forms from their doctor during the consultation).
  • It is also recommended to discontinue all medications that increase bleeding – this must be discussed with the general practitioner.
  • If the client is a woman, it is advisable to stop taking contraceptives, which increase the risk of embolism by up to 4 times (it is advisable to stop taking them at least two months before the procedure and this must be agreed with a gynecologist).
  • Before the procedure, the client should not fast or follow any diet regimens and should protect themselves from infection and colds; they must not have active cold sores.
  • The interval between surgery and an infectious disease is 2–3 months.
  • The client must be fasting before the procedure – they must not eat, drink, or smoke for at least 6 hours before the procedure.
  • We recommend not consuming alcoholic beverages or coffee 24 hours before the procedure.
  • It is advisable to bathe on the day of the procedure, not to apply any body lotions or creams, not to wear makeup, and to have your nails (both hands and feet) free of nail polish.
After the procedure, you will need to arrange for someone to accompany you and drive you home from our clinic.

Patients can return to their normal daily activities almost immediately, and in most professions, sick leave is not necessary.
We order suitable compression stockings, which help improve the healing process, individually for each client at our clinic based on measurements of the limb taken by a doctor on the day of the consultation.
We recommend wearing these stockings for approximately 3–6 weeks after surgery—day and night for the first 14 days, then only during the day. Clients should remove them as little as possible, and only for personal hygiene purposes.
For pain, the patient should take commonly available analgesics and lubricate or cool any bruises that may occur with any anti-inflammatory cream or cream containing heparin.
Further recommendations and information will be provided by the doctor after treatment.

Price of the procedure

One limb: CZK 20,000 Both limbs: CZK 30,000

Mutual trust is a priority for us, which is why we endeavour to offer not only high-quality treatment, but also transparent information about prices.
