Breast modeling

Breast modeling

The procedure is particularly suitable for women with sagging breasts who want to feel better about themselves. It is a surgical improvement of the shape and overall appearance of sagging breasts. The procedure tightens and lifts the breasts, restoring their youthful appearance while retaining their original volume. The procedure involves a one-day stay at the GIA clinic and takes 1-2 hours.

Our clinic is almost the only one in the Czech Republic that uses the so-called “Pectoral Block,” a type of local anesthesia applied by an anesthesiologist directly at the surgical site—the breasts. This makes the procedure less painful for the patient compared to facilities that do not use this form of anesthesia. You will receive this type of anesthesia at the GIA clinic as a bonus.

The principle of breast modeling is to achieve a better appearance of the breasts—after the procedure, the breasts are fuller, firmer, and have a more perfect shape. This operation can be performed on any woman after the development of the breast tissue is complete, which is typically from the age of 18 (however, it is possible to perform the surgery earlier with parental consent).

Before the Operation

First, a consultation takes place, aimed at providing the patient with detailed information and reaching an agreement on the goals of the procedure between the patient and the operating surgeon. A jointly agreed optimal plan for the procedure is based on the patient’s wishes and her clinical condition, which includes the existing shape and size of the breasts, any deformities, asymmetries, etc. The patient will be informed about the surgical procedure, the management of surgical incisions, the risks of the procedure, contraindications, anesthesia, and potential complications.

The patient must arrange for general routine examinations before the surgery (basic lab tests, EKG, chest X-ray, ultrasound, mammography, etc.) with her general practitioner. The actual examination requirements depend on the health status and age of the person undergoing the surgery.

It is recommended to stop all medications that increase the risk of bleeding—consultation with the general practitioner is required.

It is advisable to stop taking contraceptive pills, as they can increase the risk of embolism up to four times (stopping them is sensible at least two months before the procedure and must be discussed with the gynecologist).

Before the procedure, the patient should not fast or follow any diet. There should be no active cold sores present.

Current health status is important—the patient should protect herself from diseases or infections—the surgery is possible 2 to 3 months after a contagious illness.

Before the procedure, the patient must be fasting—she should not eat or drink anything and should not smoke (at least 6 hours before the surgery). It is recommended to avoid alcoholic beverages and coffee for 24 hours prior to the procedure.

On the day of the procedure, it is advisable to take a bath, avoid applying body lotions or creams, refrain from makeup, and not paint nails (on both hands and feet).

Before the procedure, remove removable dentures, glasses, jewelry, contact lenses, hearing aids, and piercings.

Course of the procedure

Breast modeling is a surgical procedure performed under general anesthesia. Typically, this surgical procedure at the GIA clinic involves an overnight stay, during which patients receive individual and attentive care from a team of qualified medical professionals.

A detailed photographic documentation is created with the patient, and careful markings are made on the skin in the breast area with a marker. The patient is once again informed about what will be done, how it will be performed, and where the incisions will be made.

The incisions are usually made in the shape of an inverted “T.” At the GIA clinic, drains are placed in the operated area to remove tissue secretions and blood. The removal of these fluids promotes healing and eliminates any potential inflammation.

The wounds (incisions) are closed with absorbable sutures, and the surgical sites are covered with special dressings. A reduced portion of the breast and a small part of the breast tissue are sent for histological examination after the procedure. The surgery itself typically lasts between 2 to 3 hours.

After the operation (still in the operating room), the patient’s breasts are secured with elastic bandages, which are removed the following day. The patient then immediately begins wearing a special compression bra (which is ordered individually in advance at the clinic based on measurements taken by a physician during the consultation). After this, the aftercare phase is managed by the patient themselves.

After the procedure

The GIA clinic advises patients to prepare their homes in a way that allows them to avoid straining their arm and breast muscles for at least 7 to 14 days, enabling them to complete household tasks (such as washing dishes, cleaning windows, vacuuming, etc.) without difficulty.

Returning to work, driving, and engaging in sexual activities is recommended after 7 to 14 days. Naturally, this depends on how the patient feels; however, sensitivity in the breast area will often prevent them from engaging in activities even before the two-week mark. It is essential for the patient to consider the suspension of any activities that might hinder healing within their home environment, ensuring their safety and adhering to the doctor’s recommendations.

Home aftercare is a crucial component for the success of any surgical procedure. Physical activity and sports should only be resumed in a compression bra and not until at least 6 to 8 weeks post-procedure.

Pain at home can be managed with common analgesics as recommended by the surgeon (usually sufficient for 2 to 3 days). The patient should wear a special compression bra for at least 6 weeks (preferably 8 weeks) and only remove it minimally (except for hygiene purposes).

Additional recommendations and information (such as scar care, sun protection, etc.) will be provided by the physician after the surgery. The results of the surgery will be continuously monitored during personal follow-up examinations at GIA clinic s.r.o., but the final results are expected only after 3 months post-surgery.

After breast modeling, an annual breast ultrasound examination is recommended.
