Breast augmentation is an aesthetic surgical procedure aimed at enlarging the breasts and improving their shape using special implants. This treatment is one of the most frequently performed aesthetic surgeries, not only in the Czech Republic but also abroad. At GIA clinic, breast augmentation has become a procedure that consistently achieves high-quality results, thanks to the ongoing development of surgical techniques and implant materials.
Every woman can only undergo the operation after the mammary glands have finished developing, i.e. from the age of 18. (It is possible to operate earlier, but only after agreement with the parents).
The milk ducts are not damaged during this operation, so breastfeeding is not threatened. It is worth considering whether this treatment is suitable for women who plan to become pregnant in 1-2 years, as changes in breast shape occur after pregnancy and breastfeeding. Thanks to today’s technological advances, there is a wide range of implant manufacturers on the market and you can choose from many sizes, shapes, profiles, surfaces and weights.
First, a personal consultation takes place between the client and the doctor. The aim of the consultation is to choose the optimal treatment technique and select the right implant so that the result best fulfills the client’s wishes. However, the doctor must also take into account the client’s initial disposition, body proportions (height, weight, breast size, breast shape, etc.). During the consultation, the client is informed in detail about the course of the surgical procedure, the insertion of breast implants, how the surgical incisions are made, the risks of the procedure, contraindications, anesthesia and possible complications.
The client must arrange general pre-operative examinations (basic laboratory tests, ECG, lung X-ray, sonography, mammography, etc.) with her family doctor. The actual examination requirements depend on the state of health and age of the person undergoing surgery.
It is recommended to discontinue all medications that increase bleeding – consultation with the family doctor is necessary.
It is advisable to discontinue contraceptive pills that increase the risk of embolism up to 4x (the discontinuation itself is advisable at least two months before the procedure and must be discussed with the gynecologist).
Before the procedure, the client must fast – do not eat, drink or smoke (at least 6 hours before the operation). It is recommended not to consume alcoholic beverages and coffee 24 hours before the procedure.
It is advisable to take a bath on the day of the procedure, not to apply body lotions or creams, not to wear make-up and to remove nail polish (on hands and feet).
Remove removable dentures, glasses, jewelry, contact lenses, hearing aids and piercings before the operation.
Breast augmentation is a surgical procedure that is performed under general anesthesia. Generally, this surgical procedure at the GIA clinic involves a one-day stay, during which the client is individually and tactfully cared for by a team of qualified medical experts throughout the procedure.
A thorough photo documentation of the client is taken and a careful drawing is made with a marker on the skin in the breast area.
The client is given a further explanation of what will be done, how it will be done, where the incision will be made, etc.
There are three ways in which the implants can be inserted – through an incision on the edge of the lower half of the areola, through an incision in the armpit or through an incision in the underbust area – this is the most common and safest method.
A breast insert or implant is then inserted under the pectoral muscle or the mammary gland.
At GIA clinic, drains are inserted into the operated area to drain tissue secretions and blood (draining these fluids promotes healing and eliminates any inflammation that may have occurred).
The wounds (incisions) are closed with absorbable suture material.
The surgical wounds are covered with special plasters.
The operation itself takes 1 – 2 hours. After the procedure (still in the operating theater), the client’s breast is fixed with elastic bandages. The bandages are removed the next day and the client immediately starts wearing a special compression bra (which we pre-order for the client after she is measured by a doctor on the day of the consultation). Then follows the phase of post-operative care by the client herself.
The GIA clinic recommends this because the client prepared her household so that she did not have to strain her hand and chest muscles for at least 7 – 14 days. And so that she did not have to do any time-consuming housework (washing dishes, cleaning windows, vacuuming, etc.).
We recommend returning to work, driving, sexual activity only after 7 – 14 days. Of course, it depends on how the woman feels, but in most cases breast tenderness does not allow any activity earlier than after the above-mentioned 2 weeks – activities that may have a negative effect on healing must be considered by the client herself at home. She must always consider her own safety and follow the doctor’s recommendations.
Post-operative care at home is an inseparable part of the result of a successful surgical procedure.
It is recommended to wear a compression bra during physical activity and sports for at least 6 – 8 weeks after the operation.
At home, the pain is treated with the usual painkillers recommended by the surgeon (usually sufficient for 2 to 3 days).
The client should wear the special compression bra for at least 6 weeks (preferably 8 weeks) and can only take it off minimally (if hygiene is required).
Further recommendations and information (wound care, sunbathing, etc.) will be provided by a doctor in advance after the operation.
The result of the surgical procedure is continuously monitored during personal check-ups at the GIA clinic, but the final result can only be expected in 6 – 12 months after the operation.
After augmentation with implants, we recommend regular breast sonography every year.
These may depend on the disease and the overall state of health.
The main contraindications include: acute or chronic infections, cold sores, autoimmune diseases, severe allergic conditions, acute phases of malignant diseases, pregnancy or breastfeeding and other serious illnesses, which are determined in discussion with the client – who is interested in the procedure.
Documents from the pre-operative examinations (if you have not sent them by e-mail beforehand).
Medication that the client takes regularly (wash down tomorrow’s intake with a small amount of water).
