Varicose veins are caused by weakening of the connective tissue in the vein wall, which gradually leads to the vein widening and becoming twisted. They usually occur in the lower limbs. Typical symptoms accompanying this disease are exertional pain and rapid fatigue. It is the most common venous disease, affecting up to half of our population in older age, with women being more susceptible to this disease. Genetics, female hormones, and pregnancy play a major role in the occurrence of this disease. In addition to these main factors, our unhealthy lifestyle also contributes to the development of varicose veins. In particular, it is important to mention lack of exercise, smoking, obesity, and static strain on the lower limbs, i.e., prolonged standing or sitting with limited movement. The EVLA method is currently one of the most advanced ways to treat varicose veins.
EVLA is particularly effective for treating large veins in the lower limbs. Laser energy is directed to the exact location inside the vein using an optical fiber inserted through a catheter. The laser closes the vein at the specified location, and it is absorbed over time. After the vein is closed, blood is redirected to healthy veins. An ultrasound device is used to locate the vein during the operation. In addition, the Nd: YAG laser has a high affinity for hemoglobin absorption, making it an ideal choice for endovenous laser treatment. Its high power, selectivity, and precision (limiting thermal effects to only the target tissue) are prerequisites for the exceptional success of the procedure. The device also offers a wide range of tools to expand treatment options without reducing its effectiveness.
According to the latest clinical studies, the EVLA method achieves a 98% success rate in treating varicose veins.
The patient must make an appointment in advance for a consultation with the doctor who will perform the treatment. During the consultation, the client will receive all necessary information from the attending physician.
After the procedure, you will need to arrange for someone to accompany you and drive you home from our clinic.
Patients can return to their normal daily activities almost immediately, and in most professions, sick leave is not necessary.
We order suitable compression stockings, which help improve the healing process, individually for each client at our clinic based on measurements of the limb taken by a doctor on the day of the consultation.
We recommend wearing these stockings for approximately 3–6 weeks after surgery—day and night for the first 14 days, then only during the day. Clients should remove them as little as possible, and only for personal hygiene purposes.
For pain, the patient should take commonly available analgesics and lubricate or cool any bruises that may occur with any anti-inflammatory cream or cream containing heparin.
Further recommendations and information will be provided by the doctor after treatment.
