Gynecomasty – Breast reduction for men

Gynecomastia - Breast Reduction for Men

The cause of the problem when a man has breasts with a feminine appearance is usually an enlarged mammary gland, often due to hormonal changes. This condition is known as gynecomastia and can sometimes affect only one breast. Unwanted size and shape are treated through plastic surgery. After a consultation, a basic ultrasound examination is required in cases of gynecomastia. If gynecomastia is confirmed, plastic surgery can proceed.

In cases of “true” gynecomastia, the breast enlargement is due to an increase in glandular tissue, which cannot be removed by liposuction alone and requires surgical intervention. However, liposuction can be combined with surgery to remove surrounding fat layers.

In cases of false gynecomastia, also known as pseudogynecomastia, there is no enlargement of the glandular tissue itself. Instead, there is only an accumulation of excess fat in the chest area, which can be removed by liposuction under local anesthesia.

Improved Appearance and Boosted Self-Confidence: The surgery helps remove unwanted breast tissue in men, leading to an improved chest appearance and increased self-confidence.
Elimination of Physical Discomfort: In some men, enlarged breast tissue can cause physical discomfort or even pain. Surgery helps to resolve these issues.
Psychological Relief: Many men with gynecomastia experience psychological stress or anxiety regarding the appearance of their bodies. A surgical procedure can provide significant mental relief.

Advice for the patient

Before the procedure, the patient undergoes necessary preoperative tests, which depend on age and health status. Basic tests include an ECG, chest X-ray, lab analyses, and possibly other exams as determined by the consulting physician. The procedure can only be performed 2-3 months after any infectious illness.

It is necessary to stop taking any medication that could increase bleeding risk.

Avoid alcohol consumption the day before the procedure.

Do not smoke for at least one month before and at least two weeks after the procedure, as smoking negatively affects healing.

Do not eat or drink anything for 6 hours before the procedure. Taking a bath on the day of the procedure is recommended.

An overnight stay in a medical facility is required after the surgery. Some mild, sharp pain may be felt, which can be managed at home with analgesics for 2 to 3 days.

Physical exertion must be strictly limited for the first 14 days to avoid sudden bleeding and stress on the scars.

Returning to work is recommended after 7-14 days.

Temporary changes in skin sensitivity around the surgical area may occur.

Contraindications for this procedure include high blood pressure, diabetes, heart and lung diseases, bleeding disorders, a tendency to embolism, cancer treatments, active herpes, etc.

Price of the procedure
